August 5, 2023 – After a record high amount of sargassum in the middle and northerly islands of the Caribbean, the next three months sargassum levels are expected to be mostly mild for the Eastern Caribbean.

This was revealed by the July 2023 Sargassum Sub-Regional Outlook Bulletin published by the UWI Centre for Resource Management and Environment Studies, Cave Hill, Barbados.

This means the Eastern Caribbean is seeing a decrease in sargassum levels, lower than normal for the summer season.

In fact, The amount of sargassum visible in the Atlantic is slightly less, 8 per cent lower compared to this time last year.

Additionally, northern islands also will have less sargaausm choking its shores following a year of high amounts for the invasive seaweed.

Southern islands were set to see moderate arrivals of sargassum through July followed by low infrequent numbers  through to October with several clear periods.
