Golden Jubilee Flag Relay continued on Andros

NICHOLL’S TOWN, North Andros, The Bahamas – The Golden Jubilee Flag Relay touched down on the main settlement on the island referred to as “The Big Yard,” just nine days to 50.
The National Independence Secretariat has been facilitating the Flag Relay throughout the island communities in which a Flag Raising Ceremony is held on major islands, leading to the 50th Independence Anniversary of The Bahamas on July 10, 2023.Lindsay Thompson, on behalf of the National Independence Secretariat, stated the aim of the relay is to hoist the Flag throughout the island communities in a show of unity and national pride.
Family Island Administrator Beverley Laramore for the North AndrosDistrict brought other officials of Local Government, and residents together for the ceremony held at the Administrator’s Complex on Saturday July 1, 2023. She noted the things indigenous to Andros and what makes residents proud to call “The Sleeping Giant” their home.The ceremony included the participation of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force and the Royal Bahamas Police Force as a joint colour guard for the hoisting of the National Flag to the song “One God, One People”, followed by the singing of National Anthem, March On Bahamaland, by residents who also recited The Pledge.
Students of B.A. Newton Primary School, Red Bays, performed a dance routine.  Reverend Raymond Neilly, President of North Andros Christian Council administered the opening prayer, and Reverend Vanda P. Rahming, First Vice-President of Zion United Conference for The Bahamas, performed the benediction.  Both gave thanks to God for 50 years as an independent nation, and for continued pride and honour to our Flag flown at theceremony.
That same Flag will be hoisted at the national service on New Providence at Clifford Park on July 9, 2023 to usher in the country’s 50th Independence on the morning of July 10.
The Flag Relay started May 21 in Governor’s Harbour, Eleuthera, which began the ’50 days to 50′ countdown to Independence.  Over the past weeks, the islands where the Flag Relay touched down were: Abaco, Bimini, The Berry Islands, Exuma, Rum Cay, San Salvador, and Cat Island.PHOTO CAPTIONS
