The Caribbean, July 17, 2023 – Two earthquakes shook several countries in the Eastern Caribbean early Thursday July 13th, 2023.

A tremor with a depth of 10 kilometers and a magnitude of 3.5, at around 1:56 a.m. occurred and was felt in sections of St. Kitts and Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda and Guadeloupe.  This is according to the Seismic Research Centre of the University of the West Indies.

Earlier at 1:29 a.m., another earthquake was recorded near Barbados, a magnitude of 3.7. It was also felt in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and St. Lucia.

This comes shortly after a 6.6 magnitude earthquake on Monday, which struck the Atlantic Ocean near the Northern Caribbean, causing some buildings to sway in the region.

Fortunately, there are no reports of injuries or damage.

It is important that people are prepared for earthquakes as they can be devastating and sudden, and can happen anywhere.

Some essentials to have in order to be prepared in case of an earthquake are food that doesn’t require cooking, water supply that can last a few days to week or more, a kit with personal medical supplies such as painkillers and general items.
